The Delhi government has decided to oppose the introduction of genetically modified mustard (GM mustard) and plans to collect and send feedback, including videos, about it to the Centre. This comes after concerns were raised by farmer collectives over genetically modified mustard affecting their livelihood and the crop’s fitness for human consumption.

Ludhiana, October 2: A large number of farmers, consumers and scientists today assembled at Kudrati Kisaan Haat, Ludhiana, to register a strong opposition against the introduction of genetically modified (GM) mustard. Scientist Dr APS Mann strongly opposed all attempts by Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) to maintain the secrecy related to Bio Safety Data of GM mustard. He mentioned that the way the data was being shared was actually creating a lot of suspicion. This is unjust, unscientific and undemocratic. Dr Satvinder Kaur Maan raised her concern over the violation of Precautionary Principle of UN by GEAC.
